Our project management programs and workshops are custom tailored to fit the needs of your organization, sample topics include:

The processes we use to get our work done are critically important to team success. In this short series we teach project teams to use a set of high engagement tools and processes to scope out their work projects and tasks as they execute a mid-range project. Our focus is on enhancing positive group dynamics and strong individual engagement, while teaching skills. 

Training Session 1:

Learn By Doing: Drafting a Project Plan in Real Time

In this session, participants become oriented to the vocabulary and process of project management by participating in a simulated project planning exercise.

In this 1-day course participants will…
  • Review and learn about the benefits of project management and the pitfalls of poor planning and lack of process. 
  • Understand key PM terminology such as Sponsor, Scope, Deliverables, Milestones, Interdependencies, Resource Allocation, Timeline, Stakeholder, Risk, etc. 
  • Practice the role of Team Leader throughout a project planning experience.
  • Apply concepts of Project Management by building a sample project plan that includes: 
         o    Drafting a project purpose, vision and objectives.
         o    Defining the scope of the project.
         o    Identifying stakeholders and sponsor(s).
         o    Using interactive methods to engage a project team in creating a work plan complete with milestones, deliverables, accountabilities and                  interdependencies.
         o    Brainstorming about risks and a plan to mitigate risks.
         o    Identifying resources needed for success.
         o    Conducting a stakeholder analysis and communication plan.

Training Session 2: Nuts and Bolts of Long-Term Success (Half-day)

In this session, participants will learn about the decision-gate method of working with sponsors and will apply their learning to a hypothetical project. Using the scenarios from session 1, participants will…

  • Review an overarching plan for moving a project from concept through planning and execution to close-out. 
  • Learn about the critical role of a team leader and the various roles that other team members will play in the success of a project. 
  • Practice using a team charter template to organize team roles and activities. 
  • Learn and practice the RPR (Results, Process, Relationships) method of meeting planning while drafting agendas for meetings appropriate for different stages during a project’s evolution. 
  • Practice key communication skills for keeping a meeting focused and on-track.

Training Session 3: Leading a Long-Term Project Team (Half-day)

In this session, participants will use role-play to practice the communication skills necessary to lead a long-term project. Specifically, participants will…
  • Understand common barriers to success of long-term projects.
  • Practice handling difficult conversations about team member performance. 
  • Practice a proven strategy for “managing up” that helps engage sponsors and team members with clout. 
  • Practice being assertive in the face of “scope creep” and project portfolio overload. 

Discuss tools for managing details and project plans that will keep the team focused and accountabilities in clear view
